Kwantlen Polytechnic University has partnered with the BC Lung Association to work on reducing student tobacco use.

Tobacco-Free Post Secondary Initiative

Events and Campaigns

On October 8, 2009 post-secondary schools across B.C. are uniting for the first ever province-wide smoke-free campus day in support of safer and healthier campuses!

Campus Smokeout ’09 aims to:

  • Raise awareness about the dangers of second-hand smoke and promote smoke-free environments.
  • Educate the campus community about the school’s current tobacco policies and quit support resources available on campus and off.
  • Generate collective momentum for smoke-free practices and policies.
  • Celebrate the work being done at B.C. post-secondary schools to reduce and prevent tobacco use.

Between the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm participating schools request that all students, faculty and staff show their support for this event by putting their packs away and refraining from smoking on campus property during this time. Quit support information and resources will be available at each school.

The BC Lung Association wants to congratulate the following schools for their commitment to participate:

  • Kwantlen Polytechnic University
  • Vancouver Community College
  • University of Victoria
  • Camosun College
  • Thompson Rivers University
  • University of Northern BC
  • Okanagan College
  • College of the Rockies

If you think that your school might want to participate, email tjanzen@contextresearch.ca to learn more.
