Lung Association Announces Grand Prize Winner of Pledge to be Smoke Free Contest

February 20, 2007 - New Year is the time when many smokers pledge to give it up for good, says the BC Lung Association. So while the association offers smoking cessation support year-round, extra incentive was added for any British Columbian who pledged to be smoke-free in 2007 in the form of a prize draw.

The lucky winner of this year's 'Cruise for two to Alaska' was Sandra Simpson of Castlegar, BC.

The BC Lung Association also urges all smokers ready to quit to capitalize on QuitNow, a smoking cessation program provided FREE-of-charge to all British Columbians.

With this program, British Columbians have access to QuitNow By Phone (1.877.455.2233), a clinically proven, cost-free, telephone-based counselling program available 24/7 in over 130 languages. They can also access www.quitnow.ca, an Internet-based quit smoking service that combines effective methods for quitting smoking with a powerful individualized program that is available anytime and anyplace.

Operated by the BC Lung Association and funded by the BC Ministry of Health, QuitNow is included under ActNow BC, the province’s health promotion platform, which aims to reduce BC’s smoking rates a further 10 per cent by 2010.
