NEWS RELEASE
Global BC News Team amongst Many BC Celebrities Showing Up n Support of Lung Health and Clean Air

Vancouver, BC, January 22, 2008 — It’ll soon be February 17, 2008 when BC Lung Association’s holds its 7th annual Climb the Wall: The Stairclimb for Clean Air. The daunting task is a 48-floor ascent up the stairwells of the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

More than 500 participants are expected to show up and stair climb in support of the BC Lung Association --- as well as several special guests including, for the first time, Global BC’s morning news team Lynn Colliar, Steve Darling, and senior meteorologist, Mark Madryga.

Joining them are radio personalities and Stairclimb event hosts, George Gordon and Dianne Newman, as well as Kim Seale, from News 1130, and Pam Stevens, Kelly Latremouille, Erin Ayres, and Sadie from Jack FM. Together they make up the Jack FM and News 1130 Stairclimb Team.

And never to be forgotten, is the much loved, and always entertaining, contingent of BC firefighters who come out every year to go one-on-one with one of BC’s tallest staircases in full firefighting gear – masks, oxygen tanks and all.

In its seventh year, the popular fundraiser not only raises funds for vital lung health programs and research, but serves to promote individual responsibility for clean air, encouraging the public to step up, leave the car behind, and get more active in a way that benefits personal health and the environment.

Some participants climb solo, others as part of a team.  Some climb competitively, some climb for fun and others climb in honour of a loved one with lung disease. All climb in support of lung health and clean air.

“Nothing is more important to lung health than the quality of the air we breathe. And, the more conscious people become of the relationship between clean air to lung health, the greater their motivation to make changes that protect our environment,” says Event Coordinator Jessa Blades.

Step up to the challenge! Don’t be intimidated. The average climb time is 10 to 15 minutes and people of all ages and abilities participate!
