If I expect anyone to step up to a clean air challenge, I have to start by doing it myself first! Two months ago I gave up on a car and started biking to work! Not only do my legs and lungs love me right now, but biking has become a great time saver (it’s faster than driving) and stress reliever. Every bike ride to work and back home I feel grateful that I am doing a small part to help the environment and improve my health. Improving air quality is essential to the environment, lung health, and the air we, as British Columbians, love to breathe! So to those of you out there – I hope you have an active and healthy summer, and thank you for sharing your clean air stories. ~ Jessa Blades, Events Coordinator, BC Lung Association |
My challenge is to do the Grouse Grind 90 times between June 1st and August 31st! I just finished doing the Grind this morning….and man did my lungs burn and my legs ache by the end. It was fantastic standing on the top and looking out at this gorgeous place we live. Twelve Grinds down and only 78 to go! You can join my team and be part of the challenge by going to our website here. ~ Jason Chong, North Shore, Grouse Grind Fanatic! |
I bought one of those pedometer things that counts my steps, and have started walking to work, Originally my main motivation was to try and get rid of some extra weight and stay healthy, but the more I keep reading about climate change, the environment, and air quality, the more my walks have taken on a new meaning. It is great to know that all of my steps are counting for more than just burned calories. For me, fresh air, good air, clean air, beautiful air, has become what’s important…it has been the motivating factor behind getting me out the door, especially on those raining mornings when it would be so much easier to take the car!! ~ Melanie, Vancouver, BC |
I take part in the Vancouver Sun Run almost every year and this April I decided to step it up by running on behalf of your charity. It felt great knowing I was running for clean air and healthy lungs. Thank you Superteam! ~ Chad McFadyen, Vancouver Sun Run SUPERTEAM! member |
