The BC Lung Association’s 29th Annual Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath united some 300 cycling enthusiasts and event volunteers from across British Columbia this past weekend, September 7and 8th, to raise funds for vital lung health research, programs and initiatives.
The 2-day, 200km ride from White Rock to Cultus Lake and back was everything a Bike Trek should be: beautiful, challenging and in the end, very rewarding.
"People of all ages come out for the Bike Trek. This year our youngest ‘Trekker’ is 11 and our eldest 84 years of age," says Kate Jarvis, Events Organizer for the BC Lung Association. "They’re a true inspiration. While the Bike Trek is not a race, there’s no question, for most, it is a challenging ride, and witnessing healthy people of all ages put their lung capacity to the test in support of a good cause is inspiring."
So far the 2013 Bike Trek event has raised over $200,000, contributing to the total $5.8 million raised during the event’s 29-year lifespan. However post-event fundraising continues until October 1, 2013 and organizers hope to push that number even higher..
Bicycle Trek 2014 will take place on September 6 and 7th - stay tuned for more info!
